6 Signs on When to Change Your Car’s Oil

When performed in a modern service center, changing the oil in your car is a quick and easy process. We cannot highlight enough how crucial engine oil is to your car’s health. Many people wait until there is a visible problem before replacing their oil. But did you know that good, clean oil improves your car’s performance and extends the life of your engine?

Many drivers rely entirely on mileage to estimate when their oil needs to be changed. Other factors such as oil quality, car age, and driving style play a role too. Engine oil that is fresh and clean improves the performance of your car by lubricating the engine and keeping it healthy. However, the fluid degrades over time and becomes unable to fulfill its function. When this happens, your car will most likely show at least one of the signs listed below.

Oil Change or Check Engine Lights

Your car itself will be the first to inform you if there is an issue with your oil. When there is not enough oil in the engine, your vehicle’s check oil light will turn on. Check your oil level and make sure there is enough. If left ignored, the check engine light could turn on. It is your car’s way of informing you that things have reached a point where the engine is in danger of being damaged by faulty parts or lack of lubrication.

Engine Noise

Engine oil acts as a lubricating barrier between the different engine parts, preventing metal-to-metal friction, which makes your car’s engine run smoothly. However, there will be engine noise, and it will rise if your oil is not doing its job. You may even hear banging or rumbling sounds, which indicates that your engine is slowly tearing itself apart due to a lack of oil.

Dirty and Unclear Oil

The color of clean oil is golden and slightly transparent. It becomes filled with tiny particles collected from the engine, and it darkens in color as it gets used. It will not be visible, so keep an eye on it and check your engine oil at least once a month. If you cannot see the dipstick through the oil, then It’s time for an oil change.

The Smell of Oil in Your Car

When you smell oil inside your car, it is usually a sign of an oil leak. Your car may be overheating if you smell gas or exhaust fumes. In either case, you should schedule maintenance right away.

Smoke From the Exhaust

Your car’s exhaust will always emit some transparent vapor, but if this turns into smoke, then it is time for an engine check. You may have an oil leak or a faulty part.

Consider Your Mileage.

Consider whether you need an oil change sooner than usual if you have driven a lot of kilometers in recent times. Although every car is different, most recommend changing the oil every 5,000 km or three months. In most newer cars, the recommendation is every 10,000 km or six months. You can find specific instructions in your owner’s manual. For older vehicles, consider using high-mileage oil.

Oil Changes

Engine oil changes are one of the most important things you can do to keep your car at its optimal performance. It is simple, inexpensive, and with the right level and quality, the oil will protect your engine from excessive wear and tear, resulting in fewer repairs down the line.
